At the intimate and comfortable Cafe Cambiare, Miranda Swain (April Perez) says goodbye to her creative nest and her relationship with Jamie (Kasey Glantz) on the eve of setting off for the city, and bigger challenges. In between sets of her final performance we hear other conversations taking place at the club. Joshua (Travis Bedard) returns to his college haunt only to have a second chance encounter with Kerrie (Anaka Shockley) after five years, leading both to wonder if changed circumstances can be a new beginning. Father and daughter Rick (Robert Salas) and Marjorie (Allison Whittinghill) struggle to repair the trust in their relationship after a shared loss, and Aidan (Michael Amendola) skirmishes with Samantha (Liz Watts) in a battle of the awkward and the introvert to decide if the chance of love is worth the effort and the annoyance.

Intermission began as a meta challenge on our part to recreate the three month inception to presentation ArtSpark timeline in the “real world”, combined with a challenge from April Perez to create a show for her to sing in after our work together on Elektra. The cast improvised dialogue over given circumstances and framework we gave them and what emerged was four pairs of people in transition.

Intermission: Life in the In Between, in between love and loss, beginnings and endings.
